Supplements are OVERRATED. Especially for new lifters.
Every so often, an edgy new fitness/nutrition trend will come out.
People scroll through social media, find a popular post/method that their favourite celebrity uses, or read the newest article on why this NEW compound is ESSENTIAL for your success, and can “hack” your body to make you progress fast.
The truth of the matter is that there are 3 critical elements that are truly essential for someone starting out:
Exercise (a strong enough stimulus for your body to react to)
Nutrition/Food (enough materials to REBUILD your body post exercise)
Rest ( time for your body to do the repairs and make you stronger/faster/more resilient)
Without the adequate reason (exercise) building blocks (nutrition/food) and rest (building), you most certainly will not improve.
Most of the “ESSENTIAL” “BIOHACKS” you see online are not very essential at all, and you can see improvement without them.
Despite the popularity of supplements like creatine, whey protein, and pre-workout, they actually offer very little on their own, especially compared to a well balanced diet with adequate protein and calories, as well as the many nutrients that help promote healthy muscle growth and regeneration.
No sleep? No recovery, and higher risk of injuries and slow improvement.
Not enough nutrients? Not enough building blocks to build muscle mass, or enough transporters to coordinate muscle growth.
No exercise? Not enough stress for your body to need to add muscle/conditioning.
So if you’re torn on whether you NEED the creatine, casein and whey, first do the math on your calories and protein intake currently, and see if you are taking enough calories and enough protein. Those two numbers will have far more of an impact than a bunch of white powders.
NNN.
